Car collection of the 29th Sultan of Brunei

There are many car collections across the globe but when it comes to the collection of the 29th Sultan of Brunei the collection puts Hassanal Bolkiah as somewhat of an Aberrant Car Collector in our view, being the largest private car collection on the planet.

There are recorded over 7,000 cars, which have an estimated combined value over £4.2 billion.

Within the Sultan’s collection, there are Ferrari F40's, McLaren F1's including F1 LMS, F1 GT and F1 GTR, Bugatti's including 4 x  EB 110 SS models with the respective production codes of 01, 02, 03, 13 to Rolls-Royce vehicles including Phantom VI, Silver Spur II and BMW Nazca C2, Ferrari F90 and FX, the list goes on.

This collection of cars has had some questions about quality as some reports are stating that the collection is falling into issues. It is reported that in 1998 he began to run out of money, and had to sell assets to pay his debts.

SULTAN OF BRUNEI CARS

When you consider the Sultan Of Brunei has recorded 7,000 cars, what are some of the special cars in the collection?

Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR

IMGP5392

The Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR was built in the mid 90's and built as part of the FIA GT Championship rules as homologation with 25 road going cars needing to be produced. From our records Mercedes built 26 cars with six cars being roadsters and of all the cars manufactured only one was built right hand drive.

This is important because this was the car ordered by the Sultan Of Brunei and this special ordered vehicle was built with purple leather interior and bespoke seats to fit his body size as the original seats he was not happy with.

In 2009 Indian businessman Vijay Mallya brought this car and it had VJM 1 number plate. The car was at the Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge, UK.

This number plate was sold 01/04/2022 by Collecting Cars for £14,500
